Friday's Double Feature

As many of you will be aware, Only God Forgives, my most anticipated film of 2013, gets released here in the UK today. I am off to see that at the first available showing near me, but not before I check out The Conjuring, James Wan's latest foray into the horror genre.

The Conjuring has me intrigued. While James Wan is a relatively new director, his films generally tend to deliver. I thought Saw, for what it was, was fantastic while Death Sentence and Insidious were both genuinely reasonable films. I'm not expecting The Conjuring to be anything other than mediocre, but I do think it will have enough about it to be effective at delivering shocks and suspense.

Straight after The Conjuring, I'll be heading down to screen 10 for the first showing of Only God Forgives. I'm really not sure what i'll make of this latest effort from Nicolas WInding Refn. It most certainly has the potential to be a top drawer movie, then again I feel that after Drive, both actor and director have a monumental task in trying to deliver anything nearly as good. Purely on what I know can be achieved with this duo, my exceptions are high. I am, however, going to go into this film with an open mind, the thought of Drive completely out of my head and allow myself to view it as a standalone piece of work. To say i'm excited is a severe understatement.

Reviews of both The Conjuring and Only God Forgives will be uploaded here, tonight.
